Small band, big job
Coping caps the pool's bond beam — the structural top of the shell — and covers the expansion joint that lets deck and pool move independently. When coping cracks or comes loose, water gets into that joint, and freeze-thaw cycles and expansive soils start working on the structure underneath. What looks cosmetic is the shell's first line of defense.
Replacement is also the fastest visual upgrade an older pool can get. Swapping 1980s brick or wavy poured-in-place coping for clean precast, tumbled travertine or natural stone changes the character of the whole backyard — before you touch plaster or deck.
We remove the old material, inspect and repair the bond beam, set the new coping with proper joints, and re-caulk the expansion joint so it does its job for the next few decades.
Material options
Clean, consistent, budget-friendly — the modern default in tones from bone to charcoal.
Tumbled or honed natural stone that stays cooler underfoot — the premium classic.
Limestone, granite and bluestone for estate projects and exact architectural matches.
Rounded comfort or crisp modern lines — profile chosen to match the house.
Cracked or spalled beam tops rebuilt properly before new coping goes down.
The flexible joint between deck and coping re-caulked — the detail most failures trace back to.
Coping work pairs naturally with replastering and deck repair — and these markets ask for it most.
Loose or rocking stones, cracks through the material, missing mortar joints, or failed caulk in the joint between coping and deck. If you can wiggle a piece by hand, water already has a path in.
Yes — coping is a standalone scope. But if your plaster is also near end-of-life, pairing them saves a mobilization and protects the new waterline tile line.
Where the material is still produced, yes. Where it isn't, we'll show you the closest matches — or use the mismatch as the excuse to upgrade the whole ring.
It's priced per linear foot and varies with material — precast is the most affordable, natural stone the most premium. Quotes are free and itemized.

"We scheduled an appointment to replace our Haywood heater and after seeing their worked, we asked about our pool tiles that have fallen off and were loose. They drained the pool & spa down a bit and took care of it. Yippee, they brought new life back into our 20 year old pool! We highly recommend Creative Edge Pools & Spas for any pool repairs. I was completely impressed with their work. A job well done! Alice Hill"
