Warm water, twelve months a year
Ask anyone who owns both: the pool owns July, but the spa owns the year. Cool foothill evenings, Delta breezes, Bay Area fog — a well-built gunite spa turns all of them into a reason to go outside. It's the highest-use-per-square-foot thing we build.
Custom gunite means it's built to your yard, not delivered on a truck: raised beside the pool with a spillway, sunk flush into a deck, standalone under a pergola, or a spool that splits the difference between spa and plunge pool. Jet placement, bench depths and finishes are all designed — in 3D — before construction.
We also add spas to existing pools constantly: tied into the pool's plumbing where capacity allows, finished to match, and looking original from day one.
Spa types
Elevated beside the pool with a spillway — the classic resort composition, finished in tile and stone.
Set level with the deck for a clean architectural look — the choice for modern yards and small lots.
Spa-sized, pool-capable: full jets and heat, with enough length to cool off or swim against a current.
A new spa tied into your existing pool — plumbing integrated, finish matched, no 'added later' look.
Seating depths and jet placement designed for actual bodies — not a grid pattern from a brochure.
Gas heaters or heat pumps sized so the spa is ready in minutes, not hours — with app control standard.
Spa demand is strongest where evenings run cool — which in our two regions is nearly everywhere.
A portable tub is cheaper up front and movable. A gunite spa is architecture: built into the yard, finished in tile and stone, deeper-seated, quieter, and it adds real property value. If you plan to stay, gunite usually wins.
Usually — if the equipment has capacity (or gets upgraded) and there's structural room to tie in. It's one of our most common projects, and the finish is matched so it looks original.
With a properly sized gas heater, from cold to 102° in well under an hour — and app control means you start it from the couch.
Standalone gunite spas typically start in the mid five figures; additions to existing pools vary with plumbing and equipment scope. Quotes are free and itemized.
